I'm working on 1.6 release, more stable (I'm writing a new driver) and with HT and multiple CPUs support.
MbM5 is discontinued, so if you know others programs, like
MbM5 that allows to read values drop a note.

1.6 release is in beta stage.
The new driver is performing very well, no more random BSOD.
I added support for HT enabled CPUs, but no support for multiprocessors systems.
If you own a multiprocessor system and you need this program I think that you have a big problem!!!

1.6 was released.

You asked if there are any other programs like
MbM5 - I just came across
SpeedFan 4.24 (
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/SpeedFan/985582286/1 ). It seems to do everything
MbM5 does and a bit more - hope it might help. Thanks for your work on
CpuEnC btw

Thank you very much for the link.
I hope it exposes temperatures to other programs just like
MbM5.

Stefano, thank you very much for the updated 1.6 version of
CpuEnC !!
I was waiting it for a long time now (I've checked the home-page regularly), and I can't wait to install it. Oh and just two non-important remarks for the sake of my "computing principles"...
1. It would be totally awesome, if you could change the executable-name from
CPU Eat n Cool.exe to a 8.3 name (like for instance
CpuEnC.exe), or at least avoid spaces and ' chars. btw., I even tried to rename it manually and IIRC it didn't work or maybe it indeed worked (I really forgot), but
MbM5 just didn't want to lauch it anymore (yeah I did changed the "Launcher" configuration in
MbM5)
2. And even better (if it is possible of course), it would be great if you would make
CpuEnC a "non-setup required" program (i.e., no installation procedure, just unzipping the program to use it)
Optionally also see the FAQ section of the
MbM5 forum (if it's still on-line), where I also made an example of "_winter_" and "_summer_" setups. Oh and yes, if anyone is interested - see below for few topics on
ArsTechnica forums (my nick is shirker), where I explained the usage and advantages of
CpuEnC program - note that they are listed from the older to the newer one:
SUBJECT: CPU cooling software Windows9x & NT
This is getting out of control - 0x000000C5 and freezes, please HELP
Few questions on a simple/basic way of the case-cooling
cheers all, Tadej

Hi Tadej,
thank you very much for you interest in
CpuEnC.
About your remarks:
- This change was in my mind and it will be done in the next release.
- Form 1.6 version CpuEnC needs a setup. HLT is a privileged instruction and could not be executed in user mode. Only kernel drivers may execute HLT. So CpuEnC need to install a kernel driver (cpuenc.sys in the CpuEnC dir). Up to version 1.5.0.1 that driver was installed and started on demand, but that caused many problems to many users giving the "Error initializing the helper driver" message. Some users are able to install the driver on hand, but many others aren't.
I've read your post on
MbM5 forum and
ArsTechnica forums about
CpuEnC, thank you very much for your words!

Thank you very much for your quick and friendly reply Stefano...
Also, I am very glad that you already considered to change the name of
CpuEnC executable to a 8.3 one by yourself. Futher, I somehow suspected that it's not a "no-installation-procedure-required" type of program, but I guess that
CpuEnC is simply one of those "low-level" program that simply need an installation-procedure.
From my experience, an installation-procedure is needed in case of programs, that for instance need to use their own additional "non-OS" libraries (and so they need to register them), programs that use
ActiveX? controls, OCXs, COM/DCOM and ALT components (and also need to register them), then some programs need to use their own drivers (and need to install/register them), and so on and on. But note - in the last case, I do not mean the so-called virtual drivers that are dynamically loaded into the memory (in other words they are created "on-the-fly"), but those that actually reside as files on hard-disk.
But anyway,
CpuEnC is a small-in-size, compact and stable program (I've never had a BSOD or whatever problem with it), so it's a real program-gem, and therefore it doesn't matter really !!
regards, Tadej

OK, I have one report to make...
Today when I chose the
CpuEnC's
About... tray-command, and clicked on the link pointing to
http://projects.stepwiki.com/CpuEnC URL, Internet Explorer was indeed executed just as usual, but the thing is that
CpuEnC was debugged by Windows debugger and terminated right away after doing it. While in the second case, with Iexplore.exe process already running, after repeating the procedure,
CpuEnC started consuming approx. 95 % of CPU and it made my system pretty slugish.
With Process Explorer program from Sysinternals, I discovered that it is the one particular thread with "start address" in
MBMStarter.dll library, that's consuming the mentioned amount of CPU. So I am wondering if this issue is a "generic" one, or the reason is somewhere in my specific Internet Explorer etc. related configuation settings.
best regards, Tadej

I've tried to reproduce the bug with no luck. I think this is not a "generic" issue. I've tried
CpuEnC with and without MBM on
WinXP and Win2K.
