Limits

  • CpuEnC must be installed/uninstalled under Administrator privileges.

  • If CpuEnC crashes or if you kill it using Task Manager or similar software, restart your system as soon as you can, otherwise it could be very unstable.

Tips

CpuEnC doesn't perform chipset or cpu optimizations. This is by design. So, sometimes, you can notice that other softwares perform better that CpuEnC on some specific hardware.

For example someone reported that CpuIdle works great, but on my two computers it simply does nothing. Another software is VCooL, AMD specific (I have two P4).

If you want you can still use CpuEnC in a combination. CpuIdle and VCooL perform chipset and cpus optimizations that CpuEnC could automatically use. So if your hardware is supported by CpuIdle or VCooL, install them and try to use CpuEnC together.

Known issues for version 1.5.0.0

  • Auto Cooling performs worst compared to 1.0.1.1 version (solved in 1.5.1.0 Update)

When MbM5 is not running the temperatures readout are wrong, this cause an incorrect Auto Cooling behaviour. Try to execute CpuEnC with MbM5 or download the 1.5.1.0 Update.

  • No MbM5 installed and Info Box (solved in 1.5.1.0 Update)

Download the 1.6.0.0 Update.

Known issues for versions 1.0.1.1, 1.5.0.0, 1.5.1.0, 1.6.0.0

  • Integration with MbM5

This version is designed and tested with MbM5 version 5.3.2.0 Some problems could arise using CpuEnC with a previous version of MbM5. If you have a previous version you are encouraged to upgrade. If you don't want to upgrade your MbM5 and you are having problems follows these steps:

  1. Go to the CpuEnC folder
  2. Delete the dll folder (if present)
  3. Rename the file MBMStarter.dll to MBMStarter.dll.out
In this way the Auto Cooling feature will be enabled only when MbM5 is running. So to use the Auto Cooling feature start MbM5 and then start CpuEnC. Close MbM5 only after you've closed CpuEnC. If you decide to upgrade to MbM5 version 5.3.2.0 you can rename the MBMStarter.dll.out file back to MBMStarter.dll to make CpuEnC use the Auto Cooling feature even if MbM5 is not running.

FAQ and Comments

I have an AMD K6/Duron cpu and CpuEnC seems to do nothing. Why?
Because K6/Duron cpus don't stop the CPU after an HLT instruction. For more infos read this article http://vcool.occludo.net/VC_Theory.html.

CpuEnC works on multiprocessor systems?
Up to version 1.6.0.0 NO. Because there's only one cooling thread on the first found processor.

If you have an AMD K6/Duron cpu try VCooL.

CpuEnC works on HT enabled CPUs?
Up to version 1.5.1.0 maybe. Probably you get a BSOD. The upcoming 1.6 version will fully support them.

Issue by an user
CpuEnC does not cool down the CPU very well when you're constantly moving the mouse around. If you constantly move the mouse around when a hardware-accelerated DirectX? application is running, the CPU usage could even become higher that normal.

This is by design: the HLT instruction puts the CPU in a standby state until a software or hardware interrupts is triggered, every single mouse movement (even mouse buttons) triggers an interrupt waking up the CPU. This behaviour could be notice even when using standard applications (not only DirectX? ones).

As the message says you must reinstall CpuEnC. Be sure to meet the system requirements (CpuEnCDownload) and read the CpuEnCManual. Be sure to have Administrator privileges and then uninstall and install CpuEnC again. Just a note: please, be carefull when editing pages.
